Add UsageX in 6 steps

These steps use a custom MCP connection, not a published UsageX listing. Start in ChatGPT web.

1

Open Plugins

Go to chatgpt.com, sign in and open Plugins in the left sidebar.

2

Choose Add plugin

In Plugins, press Add plugin (or the + add control, if shown). You are adding your own server, not searching the public directory for UsageX.

3

Select MCP

Choose MCP or Add MCP server from the available options. This opens the connection form for a remote MCP server.

4

Enter the UsageX server address

Use UsageX Maximize as the name and paste this exact URL into the MCP server URL field:

5

Connect and authorize

Choose OAuth or Connect when offered. Sign in with UsageX and approve the requested access. If ChatGPT offers Scan tools, run it and wait for it to finish.

6

Save and try UsageX

Finish with Add, Create or Save, whichever your interface shows. In a new chat, select your newly added UsageX connection and try a simple read-only question about a project on your linked PC.

Windows · SmartScreen

Windows blocked the installer?

UsageX is not digitally signed yet, so Windows may show Windows protected your PC. Only use the verified installer from My downloads.

Try first: Select More info → Run anyway.

No Run anyway button? Open Windows Security → App & browser control → Reputation-based protection settings. Turn Check apps and files Off only while installing, then switch it On immediately afterward.

This briefly reduces SmartScreen protection. Do not disable antivirus, Firewall, Smart App Control or work/school security policies.

Desktop

Using UsageX in the desktop app

Complete the MCP setup on ChatGPT web first. Then open the desktop app with the same ChatGPT account and workspace. If your desktop client supports that custom MCP plugin, select it from Plugins and start a read-only request.

Custom MCP availability depends on your client. Your linked PC must remain online. If the connection does not appear on desktop, use ChatGPT web.

Installation questions

Open the relevant question below for a short explanation.

My installer did not download

Return to your protected download page and check your browser's Downloads. The installer must finish downloading before you open it.

Where is Link this PC?

After you install and launch the UsageX background connector, it opens the secure Link this PC page. Sign in with the account linked to your paid subscription. One linked PC per subscription.

I don't see Plugins, Add plugin or MCP

On ChatGPT web, open Plugins in the sidebar, select Add plugin (or +) and choose MCP. If the screen looks different, refresh ChatGPT and check that you are signed in to your intended account.

Windows says "Windows protected your PC" — what should I do?

Use only the verified UsageX installer from your paid account. See the short SmartScreen instructions above. If an antivirus alert or your company's security policy blocks it, stop and contact support.

UsageX can't access my project

Make sure your linked PC is online, the UsageX background connector is running and Codex is signed in if prompted. Then try a read-only task again.
